Medical assistants are unlicensed individuals who work under the supervision of a licensed advanced practice provider or registered nurse. They cannot examine, diagnose, or treat patients independently. They are also not allowed to teach patients, access IV lines, or administer medications. Uncertified medical assistants in Connecticut are not permitted to administer vaccines.
