Graduate from High School or Complete Your GED
You will need to be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, and pass a criminal background check in South Carolina to work as a pharmacy technician.

Enroll in and Complete a Pharmacy Technician Course
Enroll in an accredited pharmacy technician training course recognized by the ASHP. Stepful pharmacy technician coursework covers important topics necessary for students to pass their exams.

Pass Your Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam
Stepful is proud to announce that our students have a 75% pass rate for the NHA ExCPT exam.
In South Carolina, you have the option to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam and the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) exam. Both certifications can enhance your job prospects and potentially lead to higher earnings as they show your skills as a pharmacy technician.
To receive your license, register with the South Carolina Board of Pharmacy. You will also need to show proof of your certification, background check, and education.

Candidates are required to obtain both state and national certification. The State Board has approved the PTCB exam as the approved national certification exam.
The PTCB is the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam and, for the 2020 syllabus, includes 4 subject areas: Medications, Patient Safety and Quality Assurance, Federal Requirements, and Order Entry and Processing.
To maintain an active pharmacy technician license in South Carolina, you must complete twenty hours of continuing education each license year for renewal. This includes at least one hour focused on pharmacy law and regulations and another hour dedicated to patient safety. Additionally, a $40 renewal fee must be paid every two years to keep the certification active.
This education can be from programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or Continuing Medical Education (CME).

What is the refund policy?
A student who cancels before the first week of class receives a refund with tuition paid to date with the exception of the $59 non-refundable registration fee. Thereafter, the student who cancels receives a prorated refund.
