To become a pharmacy tech in Colorado, you must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, and pass a criminal background check. Colorado requires pharmacy technicians to obtain certification from a certifying organization.
Meeting Colorado’s requirements for certification is not as hard as you would think. Most training programs only require a high school diploma or GED to enroll. For example, Stepful’s program takes only 4 months to complete and prepares you to earn your national Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential from PTCB or NHA.

Learn the foundational healthcare knowledge you need to become a well-rounded pharmacy technician and start diving into pharmacy practice.
Weeks 5-9
Master the ins and outs of pharmacology and get hands-on with pharmacy calculations and prescription medications.
Weeks 10-14
Develop skills in processing and dispensing prescriptions, and prepare for the NHA ExCPT Exam with mock tests and a comprehensive review of key pharmacy concepts.

All pharmacy technicians must be licensed through the Colorado State Board of Pharmacy. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, pass a criminal background check, and be certified. A provisional license lasting up to 18 months is available for those who have not yet obtained national certification, allowing you to work in a pharmacy while you complete your training and pass the PTCB or NHA exam.
You must keep your certification current and active to renew your license.
