To become a pharmacy tech in Utah, you must complete an accredited training program, pass a national certification exam, and obtain a license from the state.
Meeting Utah's requirements is not as hard as you would think. Most training programs only require a high school diploma or GED to enroll. Even in states where it’s not mandatory, 98% of employers require or encourage certification for their pharmacy technicians. So, certification is always a good idea, regardless of the rules of your state.
In Utah, pharmacy technicians must complete an approved training program and pass either the PTCB’s CPhT exam or the NHA’s ExCPT certification exam before they can be licensed. Completing an accredited training program, like Stepful’s, prepares you to pass both these exams and meet Utah’s certification standards.

Pharmacy technicians in Utah must obtain a license through Utah’s Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL). To be licensed, you must be fingerprinted, show a certificate of completion of an approved training program, and your current certification from PTCB or NHA.
To maintain an active license, pharmacy technicians must keep their certification current or complete 20 hours of continuing education every two years.
