01
Graduate from high school or complete your GED
To enroll in a pharmacy technician training course, you will need to present your high school diploma or GED certificate. Many employers will require these documents before you are hired, as well.
02
Enroll in & complete a pharmacy technician training course
Unless you have completed 1,500 hours of training as a registered pharmaceutical technician in training, the state of Nevada requires you to complete a training program accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) or conducted by a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Pharmacy technician training programs teach essential skills and knowledge needed for this job. The ASHP accredits Stepful’s Nevada Pharmacy Technician Training Program and covers key topics such as pharmacy law, medication safety, and hands-on drug preparation.
Completing a program like Stepful’s makes you eligible for licensing in Nevada and prepares you to pass a national certification exam.
03
Gain hands-on experience through an externship
Externships provide real-world experience by allowing students to work alongside licensed pharmacists in pharmacy settings. This experience helps you stand out when applying for jobs since employers prefer to hire people who have on-the-job training.
Stepful helps students find externship opportunities in Nevada through our extensive network of partners, and we continue to provide support as you work to ensure your success.*
Students can also find positions in retail pharmacy chains like Walgreens and CVS, which have externship programs in local pharmacies throughout the country.
*Please note that students must be available Monday-Friday, 9-5 p.m., to qualify for externship support.
04
Pass a pharmacy technician certification exam
Nevada does not require pharmacy techs to be certified. However, many employers prefer or require certification for those they hire.
Stepful’s training program thoroughly prepares students to take the NHA’s ExCPT exam. Stepful students have a 75% pass rate on the exam, which is 12 points above the national average.
05
Start your career as a certified pharmacy technician
Nevada requires pharmacy technicians to register with the state before beginning work. So, after completing Stepful’s pharmacy technician training program, you will apply for a license with the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy.
With your certification and registration in hand, you can begin your job search. Stepful continues to support its students in this stage with resume building, mock interviews, and job search support. Our career counselors will be with you every step of the way.
While certification is not mandatory for pharmacy technicians, many employers prefer or require it. Earning a national pharmacy technician certification demonstrates competency in pharmacology, medication safety, and pharmacy law and can help you stand out among job applicants.
To work in Nevada, pharmacy technicians must submit a pharmaceutical technician application to the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy. This registration ensures that pharmacy technicians meet state guidelines and are eligible to work under pharmacist supervision.
Unless you have completed 1,500 hours of training as a registered pharmaceutical technician in training (PTT), the state of Nevada requires you to complete a training program accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) or conducted by a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Stepful’s online Nevada Pharmacy Technician Training Program is accredited by the ASHP, so it allows you to meet this requirement. It also prepares you to get nationally certified and job-ready.
