To become a pharmacy tech in Florida, you must be at least 17 years old, complete an accredited training program, and register with the state.
Meeting Florida's requirements is not as hard as you would think. Most training programs only require a high school diploma or GED to enroll. There is also a steady demand for pharmacy techs in the state. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that there are nearly 38,000 pharmacy technician jobs in Florida. Florida ranks third in the entire country for the highest employment level of pharmacy technicians.
Nationally, employment of pharmacy technicians is growing. The BLS estimates that job opportunities for pharmacy technicians will increase by 6% in the next decade, faster than the average for other occupations (3%).

While the state of Florida requires pharmacy techs to complete a training program, it does not require certification. However, 98% of employers require or encourage certification for their pharmacy technicians.

The Florida State Board of Pharmacy requires pharmacy techs to be licensed. You must be at least 17 years old and complete a training program accredited by certain organizations. These include the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), the organization that accredits Stepful’s program.
In order to keep your license active, you must complete 20 hours of pharmacy continuing education every two years and apply for license renewal.
