To become a pharmacy technician in Delaware, you must complete a Board-approved on-the-job training program within 90 days of being hired. Delaware recognizes national certification from PTCB and NHA and allows certified pharmacy technicians to have expanded responsibilities, including giving immunizations.
Meeting Delaware’s requirements for certified pharmacy techs is not as hard as you would think. Most training programs only require a high school diploma or GED to enroll. Learn the foundational healthcare knowledge you need to become a well-rounded pharmacy technician and start diving into pharmacy practice.

Master the ins and outs of pharmacology and get hands-on with pharmacy calculations and prescription medications.
Weeks 10-14
Develop skills in processing and dispensing prescriptions, and prepare for the NHA ExCPT Exam with mock tests and a comprehensive review of key pharmacy concepts.

Industry research has shown that 98% of employers require or encourage certification for their pharmacy technicians. So, even in states where it’s not mandatory, certification is a good idea.
In Delaware, certification is not mandatory, but certified pharmacy technicians are authorized to perform additional tasks that uncertified technicians cannot. These include giving immunizations, reconstituting oral solutions, assisting with compounding, and contacting prescribers for non-clinical information.
To be a certified pharmacy tech in Delaware, you must pass the PTCB’s CPhT exam or the NHA’s ExCPT exam. Stepful’s training program prepares you to pass either national exam.

Pharmacy technicians are not licensed by the state of Delaware. To begin working as a pharmacy tech, you must be hired by a licensed pharmacy and complete a Board-approved, on-the-job training program within 90 days of employment. The licensed pharmacist must be physically present in the pharmacy at all times.
